Rock blasting vibrations near Lakeview Thermal Generating Station, Ontario, Canada

The construction of the nearby Raw Water Intake Structure for the Water Treatment Plant required the excavation of a trench in Lake Ontario, by underwater rock blasting. Since the anticipated blasting vibrations may have had harmful effects on the station's structures and equipment, particularly turbines and boilers, evidence to the contrary was required in order to allow the planned excavation.

While with Ontario Hydro, Dr. Danay planned and supervised a marine blast test program. The tests, which required the monitoring of ground, structural and equipment vibrations, indicated that the planned underwater rock blasting will not adversely affect the station.
