An explosion in the mechanical room of this medical research building caused structural and mechanical equipment damage. The building is a six-stories steel framed construction with stone and brick enclosure walls, designed in 1915.

The scope of the failure investigation, carried out by Dr. Danay while with a forensic engineering firm in New York City, was to perform a condition survey, review original design, assess structural integrity, prepare rehabilitation design drawings, and estimate probable cost of repairs.
